Why this series exists

J. A. O'Leary

Every book in this series started the same way: a subject I suddenly needed to understand, and a shelf of books that were either too long or written for people who already knew it. So I wrote down what I actually needed: the core knowledge, in the order you'll use it, checked against the official sources and kept up to date online. It won't make you an expert overnight. It will give you the understanding to master the subject yourself, in fewer words.

Written for the UK. Every rule and figure is checked against GOV.UK and dated, and the free online tools are updated when the rules change.

“Most books on these subjects are long because length looks like authority. I'd rather you finished it.”
